THURSDAY 14TH JUNE WE FEATURE JULIE CORLESS & LOCAL ARTISTS
Julie Corless is initially from England and moved to Toukley for the great Aussie weather in 1981. She and her husband emigrated permanently after a 12 months work permit turned into 37 years. ⠀
In 1991 both of Julie’s children were in school and she sought out some adult company via a folk art class with Lyn Arnold who was one of the first teachers of folk art on the coast. In 1996 Julie joined the watercolour society and learnt watercolour. ⠀
Julie has been teaching really since she started painting – she fell into it by default as some friends wanted to purchase her work, but she didn’t want to sell it, so she taught them instead…. which led to her career as an art teacher. ⠀
Julie is competent in many mediums, spending time working in acrylic, watercolour, pastels, and continues to teach – at the moment with 3 adult and 2 children’s classes per week from her studio at Jilliby – Kookaburra Studio.
Their art display will be available for viewing until Sunday 8th July. Free Admission during restaurant opening hours.
THURSDAY 12TH JULY WE FEATURE EILEEN KUZMIC AND LOCAL ARTISTS
Eileen Kuzmic has a long connection within the creative field. This was consolidated as she achieved a Bachelor of Fine Art Honours class1 and was awarded the FEDUA faculty medal in 2017. Eileen works predominately with photomedia practices; which includes working with historical photographic and printing processes. Her work encompasses sculptural, installation and photobook production.
Eileen’s artwork delivers a visual account of humanity through research, personal insight and relationship with her subjects. Eileen uses portraiture, photographic typology, archive and the natural landscape to deliver an empathetic insight to the human experience.
This translates to Eileen’s role as curator. The journey towards the opening night event and exhibition is delivered to the audience with careful forethought, organisation and relationship with the artists. As the curator of the Collective Print & Beyond exhibition, it is Eileen’s mission to introduce our group of artists and their talents to a wider audience…and to encourage the audience to invest in their art.
The exhibition Collective Print & Beyond amalgamates print-making with the exhibiting artists’ other art-making talents.
Eileen Kuzmic, Sarah Edmondson, Sebastian Turner, Trena Lowe and Cheryl McCoy come together in Collective Print & Beyond to showcase their unique visual aesthetic with a variety of print-making techniques, photography, drawing and painting.
Guest Artist and 2017 Gosford Prize 2nd Place winner, Carol Alderdice, joins the exhibition with a selection of her paintings and sketches.
Their art display will be available for viewing until Sunday 5th August. Free Admission during restaurant opening hours.
FREE ACCESS TO THE LOFT & ALL ART.
